English Translation of a Poem of Khushal Baba

دا کلام ستر خوشال خټک بابا خپله قصيده ؽا ستاؽننامه ليکلې ده 



1-

چې قانع د زمانې پۀ خشک و تر یم

Being the most contented one on whole dry & wet of this era 

که مې پېژنې بادشاه د بحر و بر یم

If you know me I am the King of land & sea

2-

نۀ مې تخت نۀ مې افسر نۀ مې سپاه شته

I neither have a throne nor officers or an army

پۀ تسخير د درست جهان ختلے نمر یم

But yet I have conquered the world like a risen sun

3-

پۀ درون کښې مې پراتۀ دي ډېر ګنجونه

Many treasures are hidden inside me

پۀ معنیٰ کښې لکه کان د سيم و زر یم

In other words, I am like a gold mine

4-

که مې لاس لکه دریاب خالي ليدۀ شي

If my hands apparently look empty like a calm river

د ټټر دننه ډک پۀ دُر ګوهر یم

But in fact, my brain is full of valuable assets & ideas

5-

د طالع پۀ سود و زیان مې نظر نشته

Like an adventurer, I don't care about the risks entailed

سر تر پایه درست وجود واړه هنر یم

But I am a true professional from top to bottom

 6-

که مې حَلق له تندې وچ شي پۀ همت کښې

If the courage of my associates dries up due to thirst 

پروا دار کله پۀ حوض د کوثر یم

When have I cared about the eternal source of water

7-

لا یو شور راځنې لاړ نۀ وي بل راشي

When one problem goes the other comes

مګر زۀ پېدا پۀ ورځ د شور و شر یم

As if I was born on a day of problems

8-

که لوئي مې د اسمان سره سیالي که

If my pride/arrogance is so high & competes with the sky

پۀ پستۍ تر تورو خاؤرو نۀ بدتر یم

On the other hand, when I fall I am worse than dark dirt

9-

پۀ سپين والي که مې زړۀ تر واؤرې سپين دے

While my heart is whiter than the white snow

پۀ توروالي د دوزخ د اور شرر یم

But my dark side is worse than hellfire

10-

څوک مې پرې مه وزه د قهر تر کمرو

No one is thrown from the hill edge due to my anger

که پۀ حکم پۀ سکون لکه تور غر یم

I am calm like a black mountain while issuing orders

11-

و باطن وته مې ګوره که دانا ئې

If you are wise then see my inner soul

پۀ ظاهر صورت که هر څو محقر یم

Even though apparently I may look unpleasant

12-

د حاطم غوندې  مې خېل و حشم نشته

I am not from an exalted family like Hattim philanthropist

پۀ عطا که له حاطمه برابر یم

But in dolling out favours I am equal to Hattim

13-

سخاوت مې پۀ تقليد پۀ رسم نۀ دے

I don't copy anyone in being generous as a rule

زۀ له ځایه د سخي بابا پِسر یم

Generosity is in my genes from my father 

14-

نۀ دا یو عېب زما نۀ ډېر هنره

Only one flaw is enough for my entire competence

چې بهرام زما پِسر زۀ ئې پدر یم

That Behram Khan is my son & I am his father

15

پۀ وګړي مې خبرې د مردۍ دي

Among people, I am talked about for my bravery

پۀ همت کښې پۀ هر لوري نامور یم

And am known everywhere for my courage 

16

د یاقوت د اوبو غم نشته له اوره

Fire can not harm water or a precious stone

که دا یم د زمانې پۀ اور کښې در یم

If I become like these then I could live in the fire of life

17-

خپل پردي سره ډېر حلم هم ښۀ نۀ دے

It is not advisable to be too sweet with relatives or others

زۀ دا هسې درمانده پۀ درګزر یم

I am really tired of giving relief to everyone

18-

څوک دے هيڅ ګمان پۀ ما دروغو نۀ کا

No one should blame me for lying & cheating

چې پۀ ملک کښې لېوني دي زۀ ئې سر یم

As I am the head of the naive & innocent people of the country

19-

لا پردي راسره بر ګړندے وکه

Even strangers could pull my legs & pull fast on me

زۀ د خپلو پۀ سلام کله پۀ چر یم

Then, how couldn't I stomach greetings from relatives

20-

څوک دے لافې د خپلوالي راته نۀ کا

No one must befool me about how close they are to me

چې پۀ حال د نېک و بدو ښۀ خبر یم

As I am aware of the sincerity of everyone

21-

زيست روزګار به مې د خلقو سره نۀ شي

I may not do any business with people in life anymore 

زۀ خوشحال له واړه خلقه مرور یم

As for me, Khoshal is angry with everyone
